Xiel Limited’s Carbon Reduction Plan

Background information and Xiel Limited’s pledge

At Xiel Limited, we recognise our corporate social responsibility towards all our stakeholders.

We are conscious of the impact we are having on all aspects of society. In the ordinary course of business, we aim to operate in ways that enhance society and the environment instead of contributing negatively towards them.

The science is clear: to avoid the worst effects of climate change, the global community needs to restrict the increase in global temperatures to no more than 1.5°C per century. To achieve this, the global community needs to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

At Xiel Limited, we are committed to:

  • reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 at the latest and
  • reporting yearly on our progress towards this goal.

Reducing our carbon emissions will bring significant benefits for us, our customers, suppliers, and the wider community.

Some of our targets will be achieved through behavioural change, while others will require funding, such as building and office improvements.

The Senior Management Team (SMT) at Xiel Limited has given, and will continue to give, its full support to this Carbon Reduction Plan and activities/initiatives required to achieve Xie’s net zero ambitions. The SMT will lead by example and include regular updates from the Carbon Net Zero team in SMT meetings.

Immediate actions we are taking:

1) Consolidating orders to optimise our shipment of goods to reduce our carbon emissions

2) Holding internal/external meetings via videoconferencing as far as is reasonably practicable

3) Allowing remote attendance at our user groups

4) Reducing paper documentation associated with our activities
For example, we aim to bring only one brochure with a QR code to conferences we attend. We opt to receive electronic invoices whenever given the choice.

5) Saving energy at our workplace
We have put our thermostats on timers. We are switching to LED bulbs and more energyefficient equipment. We turn off and unplug devices when they are not being used.

6) Managing our waste
We sort, separate, reuse, repurpose or recycle our waste as much as is reasonably practicable to prevent it being taken to landfill sites where it takes longer to break down and causes more carbon emissions.
Xiel Limited has a Certificate of WEEE Compliance for the UK and has an account with the Environmental Protection Agency in Ireland, reporting annually on WEEE waste.

7) Choosing greener ‘upstream’ suppliers and products
As far as is reasonably practicable, we will aim to use suppliers that measure and reduce carbon emissions.
We will support our suppliers with their carbon reduction projects.
As far as is reasonably practicable, we will aim to buy products that take less energy to make, transport and operate.

8) Reducing our water consumption and waste disposal needs as far as is reasonably practicable

9) Regularly sharing information on reducing our environmental impacts, carbon reduction efforts and pertinent environmental events with our employees and other stakeholders by various means, such as blogs, newsletters, webinars, Operations, Planning and Strategy meetings

10) Achieving ISO 14001 accreditation
ISO 14001 is the internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems. It provides a framework for organisations to design, implement, and continually improve their environmental performance. By achieving our accreditation against the standard, not only will our business be able to demonstrate to various stakeholders that it is environmentally friendly and that it contributes towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals, but it will also be able to enhance its business performance and resilience.

11) Offsetting any residual carbon emissions through the purchase of equivalent carbon emissions credits from an International Carbon Reduction & Offset Alliance (ICROA) provider

12) Measuring our carbon emissions for Scopes 1*, 2* and 3*. The initial calendar year where this is performed will represent our baseline year. From then on, we will measure our carbon emissions for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 every calendar year to establish our progress towards reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and to identify areas in which further reductions in carbon emissions can be made in the future.
