Xiel and Ergea Partner to Equip Leeds Cancer Centre with Sun Nuclear PerFRACTION™ Software

Xiel, a leading specialist distributor of medical technologies, in partnership with managed service provider Ergea, is proud to announce the comprehensive rollout of the Sun Nuclear PerFRACTION™ software solution at the Leeds Cancer Centre. The major investment implements an automated patient quality assurance (QA) solution across the fleet of 12 Elekta linear accelerators (linacs), enhancing patient safety.
As one of the largest and most advanced radiotherapy departments in the UK, Leeds Cancer Centre treats thousands of oncology patients annually. The integration of PerFRACTION enables the clinical team to transition to fully automated, fraction-by-fraction treatment monitoring for all external-beam radiotherapy patients.

The Sun Nuclear PerFRACTION software allows for truly automated, large scale, treatment monitoring of radiotherapy patients, freeing up critical resources and providing a platform for large scale analysis that can drive future efficiency and enhanced patient safety.
Nathan Flannery, Sales Director at Xiel, commented on the successful installation:
“We are incredibly proud to partner with Ergea and Sun Nuclear to bring PerFRACTION to the Leeds Cancer Centre. This automated solution will streamline workflows across 12 linacs and provide continuous, independent verification for every patient’s treatment. It is excellent to work with Ergea, and the clinical team at Leeds to deliver a solution that will benefit tens of thousands of patients across Yorkshire.”
Steve Weston, Head of Radiotherapy Physics Technology at Leeds Cancer Centre stated:
“PerFRACTION has been the market-leading portal dosimetry product for some time. A multi-disciplinary market evaluation was undertaken and PerFRACTION came out on top due to the high level of automation and functionality within the system. Installation across 12 linacs has been very straightforward and we have been very impressed with the assistance provided by the Customer Success Team. We anticipate integrating DoseCHECK™ within the clinical workflow within a few weeks and to be performing in-vivo dosimetry for over 200 patients a day very shortly after.”
The project was facilitated through Ergea, ensuring a streamlined procurement, installation, and long-term support framework for the NHS trust.
Aylin Ercil-Wood, MES Contracts Manager at Ergea, added:
“It has been a pleasure working alongside Xiel and Sun Nuclear to support the introduction of PerFRACTION at Leeds Cancer Centre. The system was selected by the Trust following a detailed clinical evaluation as their preferred solution for EPID in-vivo dosimetry.
Through our vendor-independent Managed Equipment Service, we support the introduction of advanced technologies that strengthen patient safety, improve treatment quality and enable continuous innovation in radiotherapy services. Projects like this demonstrate how strong partnerships between clinical teams, technology providers and service partners can successfully translate innovation into everyday clinical practice.”
Luis Rivera, Executive Vice President, Mirion Medical concluded:
“Delivering automated, independent verification for every treatment fraction is critical to improving both safety and efficiency in modern radiotherapy. Leeds Cancer Centre’s full-scale adoption of PerFRACTION™ across 12 linacs is a significant achievement and highlights what is possible through strong collaboration. We are proud to work alongside Xiel and Ergea to support clinical teams with solutions that make a measurable difference in patient care.”
